During the historic battle over Healthcare Reform forever tanned GOP House Minority Leader John Boehner likened the bill to “Armageddon.” I’ve been thinking a lot lately about that hyperbole and how it might apply to the midterm elections that are coming this November. Of course, I’m not alone. Writers of op-eds articles in prominent newspapers all across the country have been making predictions about what the outcome of these elections may be since back in 2008. The conventional ... Continue reading ...
Hate is the coward’s revenge for being humiliated. ~ George Bernard Shaw It all started with the dream of Dick Armey - head of the well-funded organization FreedomWorks - to create a pseudo-populist movement which we now know as the Tea Party movement. Armey is a Republican operative who was once hailed as the author of the Contract With America and led as Republican House majority leader back when the Republicans first gained control of Congress more than a decade ago. Vibrating beneath t... Continue reading ...

“You are talking about the nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind!” ~ Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, Young Frankenstein 1974. Back in the summer of 09’ Michele Bachmann, United States Representative of Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, stated on Fox that she would not be filling out her Census form. Part of her reasoning (for lack of a better word), lies somewhere in this quote from a Fox interview that year: “Take this into consideration. If we look at American history, between 194... - In a live interview during the 08’ primaries, Liz Trotta, former New York bureau chief of The Washington Times and former contributor for FOX News Channel, jokingly wished for the assassination of Sen. Barack Obama. During this interview she first “mistakenly” referred to Obama as “Osama” and then joked that both should be assassinated. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeffrey-feldman/fox-pundit-wishes-for-oba_b_103500.html· Back in July of 2009 FOX host Glenn Beck, called P... The first thing I remember seeing Peter Graves in was the TV show “Fury.” For those of you not old enough to remember the show ran from 1955 – 1960 and was the “story of a horse and the boy who loved him.” Graves played Jim Newton, owner of the Broken Wheel Ranch. The show centered on a black stallion and Jim's adopted son, Joey Clark Newton. Weekly some bad guy or hazardous situation would necessitate the intensely loyal stallion coming to the aid of his friend Joey and or his ... Continue reading ...
The long national spectacle may finally be coming to an end as some kind of Healthcare Reform may finally be voted on. As of this post, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is saying that a public option will not be included in a healthcare reconciliation package that the House will send to the Senate. As of Thursday March 11, a spokesman for Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the Majority Whip, said Durbin would “aggressively whip” a healthcare bill that includes a public option. In any case the r... Education
My college years were not an easy time for me. It was not that I had difficulty with the courses nor was it the fact that I attended college during the anti-intellectual, anti-education Reagan years of the 80s. I faced the same problem that most of my fellow collegians did - how to pay for tuition. I was always worrying about how I was going to pay for my education. In fact, I spent almost as much time worrying about how to pay for my classes as I did studying for them. I eventually did ... Continue reading ...

This week we saw the logical, albeit unseemly outcome of the Republican obstructionist strategy as one man held the entire nation hostage. Sen. Jim Bunning R-KY, an odd, quirky, bitter little man stalled for days a 30 day extension of unemployment benefits to millions of Americans. Finally, The Senate on Tuesday passed a $10 billion measure to maintain unemployment benefits and provide stopgap funding for highway programs which had come to a screeching halt thanks to Bunning. Tuesday's ext... Continue reading ...

About Me My Humble Opinion is a collection of opinion articles, observations and commentary by me Carl Mitchell. I am a native Missourian with degrees in English and Journalism. My political views are mostly liberal except on some issues. (If you decide to follow my blog you’ll have to guess which ones.) I have gone from extreme poverty to being one who has bounced back on his feet several times. That is not to say that my blog will be whiny and humorless. In fact, I will try to inject some humor into my observations as I lend commentary to today’s issues, trends and current events. My other articles can be found on Associated Content, here and here.
