What Could Happen on November 3, 2010: One Post Mid-Term Vision of America

Posted by Carl Mitchell on Monday, September 6, 2010, In : Politics

As anyone who is even a casual poll watcher knows, Democrats are not doing well nationally.  According to a recent Gallup poll of registered voters Republicans lead by 51% to 41% in a weekly tracking of 2010 congressional voting preferences.  This is in spite of the fact that neither the respondents to this poll nor the rest of America are able to refer to the GOP’s plan for post-election America upon which they can make their decision.  This is also in spite of the fact that the respondent...

Obama and the Whole Pesky, Secret Muslim Thing

Posted by Carl Mitchell on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, In : Politics

Of the many rumors that have dogged President Barack Obama the most persistent one has been the “question” of his faith.  (A site called Obama Conspiracy keeps track of these conspiracies and many more for anyone interested in knowing just how insane the right has become.)  According to a new survey conducted by Pew Research Center 3 out of 10 Republicans say the President is a Muslim.  That is up from last year and higher than the percentage of liberals and Democrats who incorrectly beli...

Welfare Prisons, Drug testing the Unemployed and other Ignorant Proposals

Posted by Carl Mitchell on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, In : Politics

I’m beginning to think that Republicans candidates who are running for office in November and those who are already in office have a secret contest going on to see who can add the most bizarre proposals to their platforms.  In a previous post, I wrote about California Gubernatorial candidate Douglas Hughes (R) who is running on a platform of expelling all convicted pedophiles from his state and relocating them to Santa Rosa Island.  Here would be established a self-sustaining colony of pedo...

The Filibuster or The Republican Party: Which is More Broken?

Posted by Carl Mitchell on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, In : Politics

Now that - for the time being - the great unemployment extension impasse seems to finally be coming to an end within the next day or two, I’ve decided to follow in the footsteps of literary greats such as Lewis Carroll, Dr. Seuss and Sarah Palin and make up my own word for this post – ‘filibluster.’  You see as everyone knows, three other attempts were made to pass the extension of unemployment benefits each one failing because Republicans (and Democrat Ben Nelson), who are suddenly d...

Which is more Racist the Tea Party or Conservative Reaction to the NAACP’s Condemnation of Tea Party Racism?

Posted by Carl Mitchell on Friday, July 16, 2010, In : Politics

At first I wasn’t going to write about the recent resolution that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) unanimously passed asking the Tea Party to repudiate racist leaders and actions within that movement.  I had already seen scores of articles all over the Web on the topic and I generally like to delve into subjects that are not so heavily covered.  I am writing about the NAACP’s rather mild resolution because of the conservative blogosphere.  NAACP Presi...

The War is Making You Poor Act: Does it have a Chance?

Posted by Carl Mitchell on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, In : Politics

It sounds like a laudable idea – pass a law that a) limits defense spending to the $548.9 billion specified in the federal government’s fiscal year 2011 budget b), uses the additional $159.3 billion set aside for “discretionary” operations abroad to relieve the full federal income tax burden on every American’s first $35,000 earned per year, or up to $70,000 per year for married couples c) uses any remaining funds to pay down on the national debt.  If 14 Democrats including John Con...

Does Paul McCartney Owe Apologies to John Boehner and America?

Posted by Carl Mitchell on Saturday, June 5, 2010, In : Politics

He’s a real nowhere man.  Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
– Lennon-McCartney

Let me start this post by committing a journalistic faux pas.  I am going to directly answer the question raised in my title – Hell No!  Let me also confess to being a huge Beatles fan and a fan of Sir Paul McCartney – not so much a fan of House Minority Leader John Boehner.  In fact, my disdain for Boehner is only matched by my admiration of Sir Paul’s (called Macca by some) musical abilities.

About Me

My Humble Opinion is a collection of opinion articles, observations and commentary by me Carl Mitchell.  I am a native Missourian with degrees in English and Journalism.  My political views are mostly liberal except on some issues.  (If you decide to follow my blog you’ll have to guess which ones.)  I have gone from extreme poverty to being one who has bounced back on his feet several times.  That is not to say that my blog will be whiny and humorless.  In fact, I will try to inject some humor into my observations as I lend commentary to today’s issues, trends and current events.  My other articles can be found on Associated Content, here  and here.
